Porta-Shop – WOW!! – It’s a REALLY Cool, Rare & Unusual Tool – Great Shape!! You are bidding on a used Porta-Shop. It’s used but it’s super clean and in great condition – I would rate it as a 90 out of 100 (pretty good considering its age). This unit is a Model 7, Serial #1024 – both the main unit and the motor have these matching numbers. There are several internet sites, blogs and forums that discuss these tools in great detail. Essential, they were made back in the 1960s (I consider 1961 to 1968). They were dubbed “Toolbox in a Suitcase”. The unit measures approximately 10” x 14” x 21” and it weighs about 40 pounds. Most of the parts are made of stainless steel or aluminum – rust is not on a regular basis a problem. It can perform a variety of shop tasks – including boring, table sawing, jigsaw and sanding. PLEASE Read the Following Concerning the Details of this Particular Unit: I’ll start with the case – overall, it’s in very nice shape. Both the green top and gray bottom are solid – no cracks whatsoever – just a couple of minor scuffs. The latches are a bit of concern. They close as they should BUT the locking tabs are broken which prevents a full lockdown of the case halves (one of the crucial photos show this issue). It does latch as it should but care would have to be taken when carrying it by the handle. Speaking of the handle, the handle looks great but there is some minor staining on the metal parts of the handle – not bad but I want to make mention of it. The “Porta-Shop” label on the case looks terrific. The inner red rubber bottom also has an issue. There are two cracks in it – one on the side (barely noticeable) and one on the bottom (probably the worst of the 2). Using Gorilla brand tape, I made, what I consider, is an adequate repair – please see the photo of this piece. Neither of these cracks impact storage capability and can’t be seen when all pieces are loaded into the case. Now for the other parts. This unit comes with all the major parts that were included from the factory – as shown in the photos. There may be a bit or two missing, but all the major parts are there. Each piece has been individually cleaned and waxed – making this a very clean machine. For the most part, the green and red paint is very good. Perhaps the green is better than the red. Some paint (both green and red) is worn in areas. The metal parts are in great shape – some very minor scratches from use but nothing significant. There is one broken part and it’s located on the underside of the main table (see photo of my finger pointing to it). The tip of the finger-latch broke off. Fortunately, the latch still works properly – just a small part (about a ¼” tip) of it is missing. The motor and cord are both in excellent condition. There are no cracks or frays in the cord and it coils perfectly. The motor runs strong – the switch and lock work perfectly. The drill chuck is clean and works super smoothly. The only instructions included are the two-pocket folder and a “Tool Set-Up” dial that shows how the unit is converted into the more than a few tool modes. The pictures on these two pieces are quite informative and is probably all one would need to operate the unit. PLEASE ask any questions you like. I have several more photos of this unit that I could provide if need be – eBay only allows 12 photos in the listing so I selected the ones I thought would provide the best views. This is in reality a one-of-a-kind tool that would make a cool gift for that special woodworker you know – maybe a great gift for yourself?? Whoever receives it’ll not be disappointed.
